EuroPalestine Urges Boycott of Dates from Israeli Settlements

(MENAFN) An organization headquartered in France has renewed its appeal for consumers to avoid purchasing dates it says originate from Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank.

The EuroPalestine Association, known for its support of Palestinian rights, intensified its campaign during the holy month of Ramadan, a period when demand for dates typically rises.

According to statements made to media, the group argues that many products marketed under the Medjool label in France are sourced from settlement areas or from companies it claims are involved in the occupation.

Its president, Olivia Zemor, stated that a significant share of Medjool dates available in French stores "come from illegal Israeli settlements or companies complicit in the occupation." She further alleged that certain packages list countries such as Jordan or Morocco as their place of origin, while asserting that the goods are actually produced in Israel.

As part of the initiative, volunteers have reportedly been visiting supermarkets to raise awareness among shoppers. The objective, Zemor explained, is to guide consumers toward alternative products instead.

She also pointed to French labeling rules, noting that retailers are obligated to specify the country of origin for items such as dried fruits. Zemor stressed that goods produced in occupied Palestinian territories are not permitted to be marked as "Israel."

In addition, she maintained that such boycott efforts affect Israel’s economy and indicated that several multinational food corporations are included among the "boycott targets."
